The process of making furniture from distressed logs is much different than starting with dimensional lumber.
Maple that is Blistered, Curly, and rich in Birds-eye is called figured; and if you have been fortunate enough to spend an autumn day in Maine, you know that the state is rich in Maple trees.
What you may not know is that western Maine is on the northern fringe for Black Cherry. Unlike their southern cousins, native Cherry trees are a lot like Mainers...deep in character and lots more colorful.
Most furniture is made from dimensional, or straight edged wood. Live-edge begins with the bark edges or slab cuts and works into the colorful heartwood. By completely utilizing the log I have honored the tree, transforming it into furniture that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
